Who is Quabeeny?
After high school, I started my studies at City Colleges of Chicago before needing to take a break to get a full-time job and take care of my family. I went back and finished my degree and began to look for where to take my next step. As a Chicago native living in the Washington Park neighborhood, Illinois Tech’s proximity and its strong reputation helped it stand out among nearly 20 other universities as I considered. Since I’ve gotten here, the business school’s tech-driven curriculum is challenging me in the ways I want to be challenged and is already helping in my full-time job. And everyone is focused on meeting me where I am: I work at a nonprofit on Chicago’s Southwest Side, and my adviser and professors work around my personal schedule to ensure I maximize my time on campus and work toward earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
That’s Interesting
I’m part of the Campus Judicial Board. That opened my eyes to Illinois Tech's commitment to not only providing space for accountability, but also for peers to be a part of that process and to not only focus on punishing a student. We get to work with faculty, we get to work with administrators, and we’re trained to hear cases and to think about solutions.
