Who is Shadawn
Perseverance isn’t just a word to me; it defines who I am. From an undergraduate experience that was challenging; to overcoming a life-threatening car accident that left me with two broken legs and a broken arm, and in a coma for about a week; to being a full-time law student with a five-year-old daughter, I see each challenge as an opportunity for growth. My decision to attend Chicago-Kent College of Law provided another challenge, but one that came with a level of support from the college that I truly appreciate. I have honed in on my passion for law and have taken advantage of every opportunity available, including participating in externships; being a member of multiple Chicago-Kent student organizations; and being introduced to resources such as the Cook County Bar Association, the oldest African-American bar association in the United States and the organization that helped me get my first legal job.
That’s Interesting
The law is my passion, but my daughter is my priority. At night, she still has to be bathed. She still has to be fed. We still have to do homework. We still have to read. She really is a reason why I keep going. She motivates me. She encourages me. She pushes me.
